This pre-season game is decided by minutes, not by quality. Oklahoma City has the better roster on paper, but its recent games show a clear pattern: the stars play about a half, a young group plays the rest, and leads do not survive the break. How long the regulars stay on the floor, and whether Indiana plays its own core at the same time, sets the size of the margin.

The pattern is on file in the box scores. Against Milwaukee the Thunder starters played roughly one half each, the team led 82-64 at the break and then lost the second half 64-44 on the way to a two-point defeat. Against New Orleans they led 67-52 at halftime and were outscored 64-43 after it. The coach has said openly that pre-season back-to-backs are by design and high-minute players will not play every night. This is three games, with only the Milwaukee one being a true regular-rotation case, so I read it as a pattern worth acting on lightly, not as a rule.

Indiana comes in 1-1 with a win over Minnesota and a two-point loss to Atlanta. Haliburton is a game-time decision after a mild ankle tweak that kept him out of the Atlanta game, but he practised without restrictions on Monday. McConnell has not appeared this pre-season and Furphy is out, so the guard depth is thin. Even so, a Pacers group with a known rotation is a very different opponent for Thunder reserves than the kids' roster that Oklahoma City sent to Atlanta without its stars.

On Oklahoma City's side, the rest list is long and comes from an aggregator, not the official report, and a local preview says plenty of regulars will play. That is the path I weigh most: stars for 25-plus minutes while Indiana rests people, which would give the Thunder a comfortable win. But either of the other shapes keeps the game inside a margin the Thunder have not been holding. If the regulars go a half and sit, the second half is bench against bench with the leak we have already seen. If the stars rest entirely, it is Thunder kids against Indiana regulars.

That is why I'm siding with Indiana receiving the points. I'm not backing them to win outright, only to stay within the number, and I'm keeping the size small because the minutes plan is unknown.
