The last regular-season Jamsil derby is 4th against 5th, and what stands out is how far apart the two teams look underneath the table. Doosan has outscored opponents by 63 runs this season, LG by only 4, and Doosan sends out Choi Min-seok, whose ERA is around 2.92, against Lim Chan-kyu at 4.15. That gap in run prevention is where my judgement turns.
Both starters sit on 14 wins and share the lead for the wins title, so neither will be short of motivation. The race is just as tight: LG is 76-63-1 in 4th, Doosan 73-64-5 in 5th, and the preview I read says a Doosan win would cut the gap to one game with Doosan holding fewer games left. With that much on the line, resting regulars is not a realistic worry for either side.
Form points the same way. Doosan has won 8 of its last 10, the latest a 3-1 win at Lotte, and its team ERA of 3.82 is the best in the league. LG went 2-8 over its last 10 and only ended a six-game losing run with a 6-1 win over NC. During that run it lost to KIA by 5-4, 6-5 and 6-4, and it gave up four runs in the ninth after leading 3-0 against SSG, which looks like a late-inning problem rather than plain bad luck.
The head-to-head is the part that keeps this from being a lock. LG won six of the last ten meetings and took all three in early September while Doosan scored just two runs in the set. But Doosan did win the one game Choi started against LG this year, 3-2 in May, with five innings, one earned run and eight strikeouts. Lim's 14-6 record also looks better than his ERA, which suggests run support is doing some of the work.
So I read this as a game where run prevention and recent play lean Doosan, while LG's home field and standing are already well known. Lineups were not out when I wrote this, so the call rests on the starter matchup and the season-long run balance.
