Galatasaray are 23rd in the Champions League table and Stuttgart sixth, yet the thing I keep coming back to is the two different kinds of tired. Galatasaray have conceded 9 in three European games and have had four days' rest, while Stuttgart arrive on a short turnaround with a patched-up back line. So my question: does a leaky home side get away with it against a visitor whose centre-back pool is thin?
Galatasaray first. Per our standings they have 3 points from 3, with 6 scored and 9 conceded, including the 1-4 against Barcelona and a 4-2 win at Lille. Domestically they beat Konyaspor 4-0 away after the Fenerbahçe win. Haberler.com quotes Okan Buruk saying everyone in the squad is fit to play, and that they must prepare for Stuttgart using either a back four or a back three. A Spor's probable XI has Osimhen leading the line, with Leão or Barış Alper still undecided on the left. Legit.ng reports Osimhen trained fully after a minor knock.
Stuttgart's side is the more interesting one. Our absence list has Zagadou, Diehl, Vagnoman and Stergiou out at the back, plus Stiller and Sauer in midfield, and the first-choice keeper situation is not clear (Drljaca is off the roster). In our records they won 4-2 at Leverkusen and 1-0 at Paderborn in the cup within three days, so the results have held up despite the list. Their record in Europe is 2 wins and a draw, with 7 scored and 2 conceded. Sportschau quotes Sebastian Hoeneß expecting a very intense, heated game in Istanbul.
How it fits together: Galatasaray's goals-against problem is largely about space left behind their own attacks, and Stuttgart's best route is quick transitions. But Stuttgart's remaining centre-backs (Chabot and Hendriks are the listed alternatives) would be facing Osimhen at full speed with little cover from a midfield missing Stiller. I'd call it a collision of two fragile structures rather than a clean favourite, and the early crowd noise could matter more than the table.
I'm not predicting a result. I'd watch the first fifteen minutes to see which side's weak spot gets tested first.
