Kashima and Kashiwa should trade pressure on the first pass with quick attacks behind the midfield. The second ball after a direct release is a key part of that matchup. Verdy and Fukuoka have a similar contest over the first reception and the next clearance. Both games ask which side can repeat a useful box entry after its first attempt is stopped.
Kashiwa's midfield spacing allowed direct entries before a halftime repair against FC Tokyo, and Kashima can send Suzuki or another runner into that space before Matsumura or Bueno collects the next ball. Kashima produced accurate shots through Cavric and Matsumura and a goal from Elber against Kyoto, even with Leo Ceara leaving after 64 minutes with a leg problem. His availability is unconfirmed, but those other finishers actually contributed. Kashiwa's Baba has a confirmed injury and missed its last two games; its replacement back three has already played together, so the decisive question is how that unit handles Kashima's repeated entries.
Fukuoka's compact front press can interrupt Verdy's first central pass, with Miki and the wing backs carrying a recovered ball toward Morooka or Kitajima. Verdy's direct reception and Mizoguchi's far-side delivery remain meaningful responses. Someno is officially suspended and missed Verdy's last match; Morita returned for only 29 minutes. Fukuoka's Maeda is also suspended after playing the full previous game, while Miki and Uejima played throughout, leaving the current press and back-three route visible.
I'm siding with Kashima to make its direct entries count, and with Fukuoka to turn more of its recoveries into a deciding box contact.
