Two games where one side's first touch decides most of the evening. In Ankara, a settled champion's serve meets a rebuilt reception that is still learning to pass together. In Charlotte, a home side with no real point guard meets an opponent that protects the ball and has the best rim threat on the floor. In both games, the possession battle should matter more than the shooting.

Ziraat Bankkart vs Altekma. Ziraat's core is built on its first touch: Ishikawa arrived on the outside and opened the league with 15 kills from 25 attempts, two aces and 60 percent positive reception at Fenerbahce. Next to him are Clevenot, Nimir at opposite and Hilmi Sahin at libero. Altekma is a young, rebuilt Izmir side, and its coach has said the system still needs time. Their hitters, Buculjevic, Ewert and Jackson Young, are dangerous when rallies get long and loose.

The key duel is Ziraat's serve, led by Nimir's jump serve and Ishikawa, against Altekma's passers, who are new to each other. That reception has only been tested against Spor Toto, a lower-table side, and it still dropped the first two sets before a third-set collapse by the visitors turned the match. Altekma also lost in straight sets to Onikisubat in the cup. With these same rosters, it took no set off Ziraat in the late-September friendly. No absences are reported for either side. Ziraat's next opponent is Gaziantep, so there is no reason to rest anyone.

The margin should be built in the first two sets, with Ziraat's serve producing three- and four-point runs mid-set. Ziraat's side-out held for three full sets at Fenerbahce, a much tougher test than Altekma's serve. Its recent dropped sets came against Galatasaray and Champions League opposition, a different level from this one. That's why I'm backing Ziraat to win in straight sets.

Charlotte Hornets vs Miami Heat. Without Coby White and Kon Knueppel, and with LaMelo Ball gone, Charlotte has no primary creator. Schroder is the only experienced handler, and rookies McNeeley and Anderson, Sion James and Naz Reid share the rest. The result has been heavy three-point volume and a turnover leak: 22 at Brooklyn and 27 against Atlanta. Both White and Knueppel missed both games, and no upgrade has surfaced since. Grant Williams, the forward who would take the physical assignment, is also out.

That sets up Miami's two channels. Davion Mitchell and the guards turned it over only 12 times against Detroit, and Miami forces enough to punish a shaky handler group, even after discounting Atlanta's extreme pressure. Then there is Giannis at the rim and the line against a frontcourt without Williams. Charlotte's answer is its three-point barrage against a soft Miami perimeter, but that depends on shooting, while its possession losses have been larger and more repeatable.

The first quarter may stay tight, with both teams on the second night of a back-to-back. The gap should open in the second and third quarters, when Charlotte's bench handlers share the floor and missed threes become Miami runouts and Giannis free throws. That's why I'm siding with Miami to win on the road.
