Two games where one side's main weapon meets the opponent's weakest unit. In Gwangju, an elimination game comes down to which short-rest starter lasts longer, because both bullpens are carrying three games of load. In Akita, a foul-prone visiting frontcourt meets a home side that lives at the free-throw line. In both, the game is decided by a column that has repeated, not by one hot night.

KIA vs Samsung: Samsung lead the series and won the last two games by getting to KIA's left-handed middle relief with Koo Ja-wook, Diaz and Choi Hyoung-woo. That is real and it repeated. But Game 4 starts with Paddack on three days' rest after a 94-pitch outing, facing a lineup that has beaten him in all three starts this season, including five runs and two homers in Game 1. Naile's Game 1 exit came from an ejection after only 57 pitches, and Samsung scored once that night, so his short rest costs him much less.

The bullpen picture is closer than the last two scores suggest. KIA, facing elimination, have Yang Hyeon-jong available as a long bridge, so the shaky lefties should see fewer of Samsung's big left-handed bats, and closer Jung Hae-young has barely been used. Samsung's best late arms, Won Tae-in and Lee Seung-min, have pitched in every recent game, and closer Kim Jae-yoon is still out. If KIA chase Paddack early, Samsung have to choose between spending those tired arms in a game they don't need and going to depth. That's why I'm siding with KIA to force a Game 5.

Akita vs Altiri Chiba: Chiba have lost five of six since Kai Sotto went off the active roster, and their coach has openly said his two remaining import bigs are wearing down. Chiba allowed 24 to 29 free-throw attempts in three of their last six games. Akita at home took 21 to 31 free throws a game, with Mark Smith alone drawing 13 to 15, and they held visitors to 12 to 19 attempts.

Chiba's real path is twos and the offensive glass, because Akita's interior defence and rebounding are soft. That is worth a few points, but the foul-line gap is bigger, and Chiba's low steal rate means they are unlikely to force Akita into a turnover night. Expect a close first half, then the game tilts in the second half as Pardon and Davis pick up fouls and Smith gets into the bonus. That's why I'm siding with Akita at home.
