This game turns on Tai Po's first pass after a clearance. Pathum can recover that ball and attack the box quickly, while Tai Po have a more active forward group than their continental results alone show. The next contact after a blocked shot or restart should matter at both ends.
Tai Po defended deep against Lion City and Adelaide, but their clearances against Adelaide kept coming back. Pathum have a clear central route through Chanathip and Andersen to the box, with Jurina taking five shots against Adelaide. Their pressure made chances there without producing a second goal.
Tai Po's Wallisson, Fernando and Chang all scored in the recent Kitchee cup match, giving them current receivers for the first outlet and the next ball. Pathum's Raniel did not travel, removing a late aerial target; Chanathip and Andersen did travel, and Nikolic played Pathum's latest match. Tai Po's returning trainees have only been observed back in training, so the attack here rests on players who actually featured against Kitchee.
Pathum should have more of the early box entries. I also see Tai Po reaching Wallisson or Fernando after a regain and bringing the far side into the move, with loose restart balls adding another route. That's why I'm siding with Tai Po to keep this a close contest.
