Two MLS games on the same night with very different shapes. One is a trade-off game between two teams that create plenty and defend loosely; the other is a clear territory-and-shots mismatch where one side owns the chances and the visitor lives off efficiency.
Atlanta United against Chicago Fire: neither side controls games. Over the last 20, both have been in high-scoring matches most of the time, and both create around 1.7 expected goals per game lately. Atlanta has leaked goals at home, conceding 17 in 8 home games in that stretch. Chicago arrives with its suspended centre-back Elliott and the injured Rogers both out, so a patched back line faces an Atlanta attack that has scored 14 in its last 10. Chicago's own shot-heavy attack, 22 shots in one recent win and 19 in a narrow loss, should get chances against a home defence that has been short of Chica. I expect an open game where a second goal follows the first, and that is why I'm on goals in this one.
Philadelphia Union against New England Revolution: Philadelphia wins through volume. Over its last nine games with stats it averages about 18 shots and 2.5 expected goals for against 9 shots and 1.2 against, even with modest possession, and it has not lost at home in the 20-game window. New England has been outshot badly recently and still collected results through efficiency, but it is missing Yusuf and Harrison, both out in each of its last four games, so it has little to chase with on the road. Philadelphia has conceded in games and has four home draws in 11, so this is not a blowout call, but the chance gap points to a Philadelphia win, with a two-goal margin a realistic branch. That's why I'm siding with Philadelphia to win by more than a single goal.
