Golden State arrives in Phoenix on the second night of a back-to-back without the two players who create its offence, so this matchup is about who handles the ball, not about names on a table. In Milwaukee, the side picture splits evenly, but the run picture does not: two strong starters, two rested late-inning groups and two lineups short on power all point the same way. Both games come down to one structural edge that holds across the whole night.
Phoenix vs Golden State. Golden State's offence runs through Curry and Podziemski, who scored 42 of the team's 108 points against Memphis. Podziemski is out with a back problem and Curry has said he probably won't play the second night. Both played the night before, so this is a new loss, not something already in their 0-2 form.
The key matchup is Golden State's replacement handlers against Phoenix's ball pressure. Draymond Green had five turnovers in 31 minutes against Memphis even with Curry on the floor, and Phoenix has averaged double-digit steals. Booker and Jalen Green, meanwhile, are both available; Booker scored 23 even in the heavy opening loss at Portland.
Phoenix's weak spot, the glass without Mark Williams, mostly disappears here. Portland's size beat them on the boards, but Golden State has no healthy true centre with Porzingis and Bassey out. Golden State's young group can keep it close early with energy, but the third quarter, when tired legs and the lack of a shot creator show up, is where Phoenix should pull away. That's why I'm backing Phoenix to win with room to spare.
Brewers vs Rays, Game 2. Drew Rasmussen has allowed three runs in 21 postseason innings and comes in on extra rest against a Milwaukee lineup whose lower half did very little in Game 1. Henderson rarely walks anyone, with 19 walks in over 98 innings, and his worst postseason damage came from his own throwing errors rather than hard contact.
The late innings look just as tight. Baker, Booser and Wells went unused for Tampa Bay in Game 1, and Milwaukee's leverage arms are fresh after a long break. Neither lineup hits for power, and Game 1 was a one-run game. I expect starters near their normal level, then fresh bullpens shutting the door, so I'm siding with a low-scoring game.
