The next Dodgers–Brewers game could be decided in the handoff between pitchers. Milwaukee has named an opener after asking a lot of its bullpen through the postseason, while Los Angeles says several arms are unavailable as it plans for a longer series. That creates a good question on both sides: who can get useful innings without forcing the manager into his last comfortable option too early?
The Brewers' relief group had worked 32 2/3 innings in seven playoff games when Sports Illustrated examined Pat Murphy's choice. A later report named Shane Drohan to open, with his workload still unclear. Dave Roberts, meanwhile, said Skubal, Yamamoto and Wrobleski would be unavailable for this game. Milwaukee's comeback in the previous game came after the Dodgers briefly took the lead, so this is a live issue rather than a tidy story about the series score.
