Two Korean matches, one question in each: who has the depth to last the whole game. Korean Series Game 1 is a rested regular-season champion against a playoff survivor whose bullpen has been stripped of its closer and two lefties. In Busan, a KCC side with a strong inside pair meets a Sono team that has been shooting its way through games but is likely without its only centre-type import. In both, the thinner side has to win the middle of the game with fewer tools.

KT have not played a competitive game since mid-October, while Samsung came through a five-game playoff against KIA and won the decider on the back of Jurado's seven innings. That gap in rhythm is real and it is the strongest thing Samsung have going for them. But the pitching matchup leans the other way. Samsung hand the ball to Choi Won-tae, who lasted less than two innings in his playoff start and starts here because Won Tae-in is needed in the bullpen, not because of form. KT open with Davis Daniel, who gave six innings of zero and one run in his September outings and whom his manager now calls the staff ace.

The bullpens are where the series opener should turn. Samsung's entry has no Kim Jae-yoon, no Lee Seung-hyun and no Baek Jung-hyun, so if Choi exits early again, a bridge of middle relievers has to cover five or more innings before Won Tae-in and Lee Seung-min can close. KT's pen has had three weeks to recover. Samsung's catcher Kang Min-ho is also carrying a side injury, and Koo Ja-wook is limited to DH, which pushes Choi Hyung-woo into a big Suwon outfield.

If KT's bats wake up early, the game tilts quickly. If they are rusty, the starter and bullpen gap still keeps it close rather than handing it to Samsung. That's why I'm siding with KT to win the opener.

In the basketball, the first meeting was a one-point Sono win at home, decided by a buzzer three, with KCC ahead by four in the final seconds. That night Johnny O'Bryant played 35 minutes for Sono. He left early with back pain against Samsung, sat out the loss to KT, and is still listed as uncertain. Without him Sono gave up 95 and 103 points at home and had no answer for Kanter inside.

The key matchup is Shawn Long against a Sono frontcourt with no real centre. Even with O'Bryant on the floor, Long grabbed eight offensive rebounds in the first meeting and KCC made most of their twos. In the second and third quarters KCC can play Long and Louis King together against Scotty James alone, and that is where the lead should be built. Sono's way back is three-point volume from Lee Jung-hyun, Kambao, James and Lee Jae-do, which is a genuine weapon, but they arrive in Busan on short rest after three of them played heavy minutes against KT.

KCC's losing run came mostly from a long stretch of road games and a home back-to-back, not from a new injury, and their core all played in the win over DB. With home floor, rest and the glass on their side, I'm backing KCC to win by more than a single basket.
