This match is less one-sided than the table makes it look. Juventus will have the ball, but the players who used to turn that possession into chances from wide areas are all missing. Their recent habit of conceding the first goal falls in exactly the window Genoa use to win at home. What decides it is whether Juve's set pieces settle the game before Genoa's early break does.

Start with who carries the ball. Juve have had between 52 and 72 percent of possession in every recent Serie A game, and Genoa under De Rossi sit at 34 to 45 percent. Without Yildiz, Conceicao and Nicolas Gonzalez, Juve lose their whole one-on-one wide unit. Their league open-play chances from that ball-carrying role have come to about one expected goal a game: at Lecce, against Lazio, at Sassuolo. Even at Lecce the goals came from midfield, a Douglas Luiz free kick met by McKennie and a Luiz strike from the edge of the box, not from the flanks.

The key matchup is Genoa's early transition against Juve's wing-back flanks. Juve conceded first in four of their last five, at 15, 18, 20 and 37 minutes, all before their control settled. That is Genoa's route: Osmajic and Messias struck early against Fiorentina, Ellertsson scored against Venezia, and then the block held deep. Venezia had 19 shots and Genoa still won 1-0. Juve's best answer is the dead ball, with Luiz delivering to Bremer, Gatti and McKennie against a Genoa side that gives away plenty of corners at home.

The absences matter on the pitch even though they are old news. Celik, Gonzalez and Conceicao are the fresh losses on top of Yildiz, Thuram and Locatelli. Genoa have Sow, Ehizibue and Wiafe back, so the midfield and right side are whole and the Osmajic-Ellertsson unit should start together.

In the flow I expect, Genoa engage early and look for a quick break while Juve settle. If Genoa score first they drop into the Venezia-style block and Juve are left chasing with set pieces and long possession. That is the kind of game that ended level at Cagliari, where Juve had 72 percent of the ball. If Juve score first, they have tended to ease off after the break on short rest, which gives Genoa the ball late.

That's why I'm siding with Genoa not to lose. Juve's wide creation is gone, Genoa's early window lines up with Juve's early concessions, and a draw counts for me too.
