Al Ain have more of the ball and more volume, but their big wins in this competition came only after opponents had to open up. Tractor are a compact side that almost never lets a game get away from them, and they will not chase. The match should turn on whether Al Ain score early, and the Al Ain attack that arrives is missing one of its key pieces.
Al Ain's two group wins look huge on paper. The 4-0 over Al Nassr came after an intercepted back-pass at 25 minutes, with the Nassr keeper having a poor night. The 4-1 at Al Quwa was already 4-0 by half-time, helped by an own goal. At home in the league the picture is different: one win in seven, conceding two or more in five of them. Tractor under Nekounam are a tight 4-4-2 that has conceded three or more only once in its last 20 matches. Their one loss in this campaign stopped at 0-1 after they fell behind early.
The key matchup is Kaku and Palacios against Tractor's central screen. That is where Tractor are weaker this week, with Khamrobekov, Hosseini and Zakipour reported out. On the other side, Al Ain lose Soufiane Rahimi, the creator and runner who had three key passes and an assist at Quwa. Against a deep block, that leaves Houssine Rahimi and Giakoumakis with one fewer supplier.
Expect Al Ain to have the ball and Tractor to wait. If it is still level or only 1-0 at the break, the match leans towards a one-goal game. Tractor's own chances come late in transition: their second-half output jumped against Shamal, and Al Ain conceded late at Quwa.
That's why I'm siding with Tractor to keep this close. A block that rarely concedes three meets a favourite that needs a forced game state to run up a score.
