City and Brighton are meeting twice at the Etihad in quick succession, but this cup game could have a different cast from their league rematch. Maresca says five City regulars have been given time off and confirms Rulli will start in goal. Brighton expect Minteh and Wieffer to travel after injury, though travelling is not the same as starting. I’m curious which side settles its shape first when those changed pieces have to defend a quick turnover.
The City update names Haaland, Dias, Gvardiol, Anderson and Donnarumma among the players given a break. Brighton’s coach also says Chema Andres and Kadioglu remain in doubt for the cup match. That makes the confirmed team sheets more useful than assuming either side will repeat this lineup in the next meeting.
