[2026-27 AFC Champions League Two] PFC Nasaf vs Al Wahda preview and analysis Kick-off: October 14, 22:45 (Korea time)

PFC Nasaf and Al Wahda meet at Karshi Central Stadium on October 14 at 22:45 Korea time in the second round of Group A in the AFC Champions League Two. Al Wahda took three points from its opener, while PFC Nasaf earned one. A home win would put the teams level in the standings, while an away win would stretch the gap to five points.

1. Match overview and team form

PFC Nasaf drew 0-0 away to Al Khaldiya SC in the first round. Al Wahda trailed Kuwait SC 2-0 at home after just eight minutes, then came back to win 3-2. Those results alone do not tell us much about either side’s attack or defence. PFC Nasaf allowed Al Khaldiya SC an expected goals figure of 1.37 and also benefited from the visitors failing to convert two big chances in the first half. Al Wahda’s 38 shots and 3.63 expected goals reflected both the need to recover from its early deficit and the numerical advantage it had after the opposition were reduced to 10 men in the 60th minute.

Team PFC Nasaf: AFC Champions League Two opener, 0-0 away to Al Khaldiya SC / Key availability factor for this match: likely to keep most of the previous starting XI Al Wahda: AFC Champions League Two opener, 3-2 at home against Kuwait SC / Key availability factor for this match: Omar Khrbin, Alaeddine Zouhir, Zayed Al Hammadi and Lenny Rivas are out

PFC Nasaf have won four straight in the Uzbek league. On October 9 against Dinamo Samarqand, they took the lead through Adenis Shala in the 80th minute, conceded an equaliser three minutes later, then won 2-1 with a 90+6-minute winner from substitute Alibek Davronov. Before that, they beat Neftchi Fergana 6-2 and Bunyodkor 3-0 at home. They led at half-time in both big wins. In their continental opener, though, all five second-half shots went wide. Their recent scoring run at home in the league may not carry over against Al Wahda.

Of PFC Nasaf’s last 20 league matches, the eight played through early May brought one win, four draws, three defeats and eight goals. In the 12 matches since the league resumed in mid-July, they have recorded seven wins, two draws, three defeats and 23 goals. The change in attacking output is clear, but manager Ruzikul Berdiev has made few changes to his line-up. There was only one difference between the starting elevens against Al Khaldiya SC and Dinamo Samarqand. At 0-0 against Dinamo Samarqand, Berdiev made a triple substitution in the 61st minute. Earlier, when several players were unavailable away to Andijan, he responded by moving Umar Eshmurodov into defensive midfield. Nasaf tend to start with a settled first choice, then use substitutions and positional changes to respond to the match and absences.

Al Wahda lost their first two league matches, then won three in a row. All three wins came by a one-goal margin, with late goals deciding the matches against Baniyas and Al Dhafra. According to Al Khaleej, Al Wahda managed only two shots despite 64% possession in their 1-0 league win over Al Dhafra, while their opponents had 10. Substitutes played a direct part in the last two goals of the comeback against Kuwait SC, but both came after the opposition had been reduced to 10 men. Al Wahda have found ways to score late, but we have little evidence to judge whether they can produce the same attacking volume away from home in an 11-on-11 match like this one.

Al Wahda’s absences affect both attack and defence. Captain Khrbin missed the trip with a minor knock. He has started all seven of the team’s matches this season, scoring once and providing three assists. Defender Zouhir, goalkeeper Al Hammadi and Rivas, who scored the equaliser against Kuwait SC, are also out (Al Bayan, October 13). Midfielder Adam Gnened Cherin has returned from international duty, while Caio Canedo has recovered from injury and made the travelling squad. Cherin assisted Mousa Diarra’s headed goal and Christian Benteke’s winner against Kuwait SC, and Canedo scored the winner in last season’s meeting in Karshi. Al Wahda still have attacking options, but they will need a new combination to replace Khrbin’s link-up play and the defensive organisation of the absent players.

The sides met once at the same stadium in November 2025. PFC Nasaf led at half-time through Sardorbek Bakhromov, but Al Wahda came back to win 2-1 with second-half headers from Pavor Ogbu and Canedo. Nasaf still have the same manager and many of the same first-choice players, while Al Wahda still have two of the players who scored that day. Al Wahda have since changed managers. Rather than reading too much into the old result, we’ll be watching to see whether Nasaf’s first-half attack and Al Wahda’s second-half threat in the box meet again.

Both teams played their previous match on October 9, so they have had the same rest period. Al Wahda travelled to Uzbekistan on the 12th and were due to train once in Karshi on the 13th. PFC Nasaf have a league away match three days after this fixture. Berdiev has not said he will rest key players. Rain and strong winds are not forecast around Karshi at kick-off, so team selection and second-half substitutions look more likely to shape the match than the weather.

2. Match-up analysis

One area PFC Nasaf can target is Al Wahda’s set-piece defending. Al Wahda conceded twice from set-piece situations in the opening eight minutes against Kuwait SC. This time, they will be without starting defender Zouhir and goalkeeper Al Hammadi from that match. Manager Shamusca also warned about PFC Nasaf’s attacking set pieces (Al Bayan, October 13). If the home side win corners and free kicks, the reworked defence will need to coordinate who challenges for the ball and who deals with the second ball.

That does not mean PFC Nasaf will have the upper hand on every set piece. Al Wahda have Ogbu, who scored with a header in the previous meeting, and Lucas Pimenta, who has started regularly this season. PFC Nasaf also completed only three of their 14 crosses against Al Khaldiya SC. There is little to suggest their wide play alone kept the opposition under constant pressure. Nasaf will need to deliver set pieces into the box and turn clearances into further shots. Davronov’s winner against Dinamo Samarqand also came from a scramble inside the penalty area.

Al Wahda have shown a different strength in attack. Mousa Diarra and Rivas scored headers against Kuwait SC, and both of their goals in the previous meeting with PFC Nasaf came from headers too. With Cherin back, they have a player who can deliver the ball into the box. Benteke and Canedo can compete for aerial balls, either from the start or off the bench. If Benteke starts, Al Wahda can target him from the opening stages, but they would have fewer options to bring on another striker later. If he begins on the bench, they could use Canedo in the second half as they did in the previous meeting. Rivas’ absence means they cannot repeat the same substitution pattern they used against Kuwait SC.

Whether PFC Nasaf can withstand that threat in the second half is another key factor. Away to Al Khaldiya SC, they allowed eight shots inside the box after the break but kept a clean sheet. They recorded 14 interceptions and 26 clearances over the full match. The shutout reflected both the defenders’ work and the opposition’s poor finishing. Against Dinamo Samarqand, Nasaf conceded an equaliser just three minutes after taking the lead. In the previous match against Al Wahda, they led at half-time but allowed two second-half headers inside the box. Even if PFC Nasaf score first, their defenders will need to keep dealing with crosses and the rebounds after the goalkeeper makes a save.

In midfield, the key question is whether Al Wahda can turn possession into shots. After using a 4-3-3 in the League Cup match against Al Dhafra, Shamusca praised his side’s play between the lines and use of space. Al Dhafra had been down to 10 men from midway through the first half, though. In their earlier league meeting, Al Wahda had 64% possession but managed only two shots. If PFC Nasaf keep the gaps between midfield and defence under control, it may be difficult for Cherin and Jadson to receive forward passes and turn them into attempts. If the hosts push forward early in search of a goal, though, those two could find space behind them.

If the match is still level after the break, both managers’ substitutions will matter. Berdiev made three changes at once in the 61st minute against Dinamo Samarqand as he chased a win, while Shamusca brought on forwards in stages from half-time against Kuwait SC. Even with a draw, Al Wahda would remain two points ahead of PFC Nasaf. If the home side add attackers in search of a winner, Al Wahda can respond with Cherin’s passing and aerial balls into their forwards. If Al Wahda concede and have to chase the game, PFC Nasaf may get more chances to win set pieces and attack against a team pushing forward.

3. Verdict and conclusion

Our predicted score is 1-1. We expect PFC Nasaf to take the lead in the first half from a corner or free kick against Al Wahda’s new defensive combination, then Al Wahda to level in the second half by sending the ball into the box. PFC Nasaf are likely to start at home with their usual first-choice line-up, while Al Wahda are missing a defender and goalkeeper who were involved in set-piece defence. The visitors still have forwards who can attack Cherin’s delivery and get on the end of headers after the break. But PFC Nasaf’s recent high-scoring results have mostly come in league matches, while Al Wahda’s key comeback goals this season came after opponents were sent off. We do not have strong evidence for either side to score a second goal.

The market favours Al Wahda on the strength of their squad depth and PFC Nasaf’s failure to win any of their four continental home matches last season. Nasaf’s continental record matters. Still, Al Wahda arrive without Khrbin’s link-up play and without Zouhir and Al Hammadi, who were involved in defending set pieces. Those gaps make us see the teams’ chances of winning as closer than the market does. Our view would change if Al Wahda keep PFC Nasaf from scoring on set pieces early in the match. That would weaken our expected route to the opening goal and leave Nasaf’s ability to score later as a bigger question.
